Closed Group Japanese Classes

Are you learning Japanese with a friend, family member or partner? If not, would you like to give it a go?

Closed Group classes are ideal for anyone would like to learn Japanese in a private group environment. In particular Closed Group lessons may be right for you if:

You enjoy learning as part of a group
You have an existing group of people (or just one other person) who you already learn Japanese with
You want more a personalised, flexible arrangement than standard group classes can offer

Option 1 | Preset Courses

Options to personalise your lessons to best fit your needs and learning aims

Closed Group lessons give you the freedom to personalise:

Your group size
Who you study with
Lesson timings*
Course intensity (60min vs 90min lessons), start and end date
Whether you have homework or not
Whether we book in any extra sessions* for additional practice, questions etc

Option 2 | Tailored Lessons

Option 3 | Study Support

Study Support is different from Tailored Lessons in that there is no pre-set lesson plan. What you want to study during your sessions is entirely up to you. You may choose to make a schedule or study plan for yourself, but it can be as flexible as you like. In fact, many students come to sessions with only a vague idea of what they want to do that day.

An important thing to mention about Study Support is that I will not prepare anything specifically for your sessions together. Instead, materials may be provided on an ad-hoc basis during the lesson. This is the major difference between Tailored Lessons and Study Support.

Study Support may be a good option for you if:

You are looking for some extra structure and feedback to supplement your studies
You want the chance to practise your Japanese in a supportive environment
You would like to build confidence and keep motivated with learning Japanese
You would like help building a study plan or choosing learning materials, e.g. for the JLPT

*To match the pace at which courses are usually taught to groups, my standard recommendation for Preset Course lessons is 90 minutes (incl. 5min break). However, you can also select a more intensive option in which we cover the same content in 60mins. Lessons are typically scheduled on a weekly or fortnightly basis. FAQs

What can I expect from classes?

As with all of my group study options, you can expect:

A friendly, supportive learning environment
Plenty of opportunities to ask questions
Extra resources (e.g. quizzes, videos, songs) to help you absorb the language covered in class
Lessons recordings available if you miss a lesson

Why is homework an add-on?

As not all students want the same level of input to complement lessons, I treat homework as an optional add-on. Homework includes two things:

Me setting you homework activities to be completed in between lessons.
Feedback on said homework provided outside of class time, most often through comments in our shared Google Drive folder.

When are lessons available?

Lessons are generally scheduled on a regular time either weekly or fortnightly, although more flexible arrangements may be possible depending on your needs.

Please note: I do not typically teach on weekends or during the evening (UK time). For those elsewhere in the world (US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and beyond), please be sure to check how our time zones match up.

This option may also suit businesses looking for lessons for a group of employees.
