Quiz! Japanese Christmas & New Year

Posted: 15th December 2022

As we're getting very close to the winter holidays, today I'm releasing something a bit different: a Japanese Christmas and New Year quiz!

While New Year (お正月 - o-shōgatsu) is the main winter celebration in Japan, you'll be hard pressed to make it through the festive season without encountering your fair share of Christmas decorations and more.

I hope one day to do a longer post about all the different customs, traditions and festivities that go on during Japan's 年末年始 (nenmatsu nenshi - literally "end of the year and beginning of year"), but this year I'm going to keep it short and sweet.

Have a go at the quiz below and click "Submit" and then "View score" to see how you do. I hope you learn something interesting along the way!

You've reached the end of this post! I hope you enjoyed it.
